Versace is the definitive house of Italian maximalism — a label that built its identity on gold Medusa heads, baroque prints, bondage-inflected bodycon, and a hedonistic philosophy of beauty as power. Founded in Milan in 1978 by Gianni Versace, the house became a cultural phenomenon through its supermodel shows and pop-culture clientele before passing to his sister Donatella after his murder in 1997.
