Yohji Yamamoto is a Tokyo-born, Paris-based designer whose practice dissolves the boundary between fashion and philosophy. Working primarily in black, his deconstructed, asymmetric silhouettes draw on Japanese craft and Western tailoring to produce garments that feel both ancient and apocalyptic. Since his Paris debut in 1981 alongside Rei Kawakubo, Yamamoto has been one of fashion's most uncompromising voices.
